Oslo
Our first full day in Norway. We’ve got a well located apartment not far from the central station. Lots of cafes, bars etc and little grocery stores.
First stop is the cafe under our apartment. Lots of yummy things to admire. Coffee acceptable to our connoisseurs.
Next we made our way through the crowded streets, to see the little green men in the Grass Roots Square. It’s a public art installation featuring 50,000 tiny bronze figures embedded in the ground created by South Korean artist Do Ho Suh, the small figures “rise from the pavement to hold up the stone plaza”. Apparently the installation symbolizes the grassroots and ordinary citizens that politicians and the government are meant to serve.
Then we found our way back to the main streets to join the throngs heading towards the royal palace. I had wanted to see the flowers that are amassing outside the palace to honour the late king, but it was very crowded and realised that we probably wouldn’t have been able to get close enough to see them and gave up on that. Many people were taking flowers.
(In the middle of writing this blog, an alarm went off and we evacuated the building. Two fire trucks quickly appeared and we were only outside for a few minutes. )

Back to today’s activities, we made our way down to the waterfront and had lunch in the company of seagulls also having lunch.
After lunch we made our way to the fort intending to see the resistance museum but it was closed in deference to the King’s demise. Its was a good view from up on the hill
A theme of staues (and doors) seems to be developing. Some seen in today’s wandering:
Back to the apartment for a game of canasta, dinner at a Japanese restaurant with a robot and then a game of Qwirkle.
